Nikau Palm Masks
These masks are as if I've handed the forest a camera then the forest has given me back its ‘selfies’.
I sense when we encounter the familiarity of a face, an organic mask, we recognise ourselves.
We might even become more understanding of our forest counterparts and increase empathy toward nature.
Ultimately, to recognise that we are nature, we are environment.

This face from Les Demoiselles d'Avignon by Picasso comes after a conversation with friends on masks and found objects. The 'crown' at the top is made from Pingao, harakeke and found bottlecaps and the base leaf was found on the beach at Papamoa. Picasso's faces were influenced by masks.
