The Creative Classroom

Students at Mount Roskill Intermediate have been getting familiar with the spirits of creativity. Teacher Dylan Wiggill guides students through a process whereby they can get close to the essence of nature using their imaginations and some dried plant material. I think they're doing an amazing job. From their being inspired by my plant masks I am now inspired in return by their work, thank you! I really love how these creatures are inhabiting your school.

Mask making has been part of human psyche from the earliest of times, donning the guise of an imagined form can lead to better understanding of our environment and of our own selves. For thousands of years masks have been used to connect with spirit mind and of new ways to be. Whether for healing, self expression or decoration, masks help us discover elements in our behaviour that is usually hidden. They can often offer insight into how to celebrate ourselves.
